shutter speed

In both pictures we are in a dark room with no lights on. We set our camera up so that we could see ourselves and capture the movement. In the first picture we increased our shutter speed so that we could capture the movement of light. In the second picture we set our shutter speed to ten seconds, we lowered the ISO and increased the aperture. It was really fun playing with the shutter speed because it created some really cool affects. Shutter speed is basically how long the shutter will stay open, the shutter could be refered to as like a door. Shutter speed interactes with ISO and aperture by determining how much time they have to affect the picture with their functions.

ISO: film speed

ISO is a function on the camera that allows you to choose how much or how fast you want the given light to enter the film of the camera. It is used to enhance the light given oppose to creating it by using flash. The difference between flash and ISO is flash adds light to the entire picture and ISO uses the light already given. You would choose ISO over flash when you want to capture the light already there, like if you wanted to take a picture of your christmas tree ISO would allow you to capture the light from the lights and use it to brighten the rest of the picture, oppose to flash that would just add light to everything. You have to be careful when using ISO in bright places because the higher the ISO the more light comes in and the brighter your picture would be.

fill in flash experiment

Fill in flash is when you use flash to lighten up your subject when the background creates a shadow. For example, if you were to take a picture with your subject facing away from the sun, the light from the sun would create a shadow. So you would use fill in flash to brighten your subject, or take away the shadow. The photos of Luis are a good example of fill in flash. The sun is really bright but it creates a shadow over his face, so I used fill in flash to brighten it.

SURREALISM: Lions and Daisies

Long ago there lived two lions. Now these lions are not any lions they were lions of happiness and sadness. Every where they went they would bring happiness and take away the sadness. But they weren't always happy themselves. They secretly were very sad because they had to carry all of the sadness they took from everyone and everything else. Their only true happiness came just from the knowledge that they made everyone else happy. One day they laid down and had a long talking about their own happiness. They both knew that they wanted to bring happiness to everyone but they also knew that they couldn't carry any more sadness. They both happily decided to do something for themselves, they would just leave. Now this was hard for both the lions because making things happy was what they've done since they were cubes but it was the best thing to do for them.
So they walked for miles and miles until they came across a beautiful house on a hill in the near distance. At first they were afraid to go any closer because of the dark sky. They also noticed that the house and hill was lifeless and everything seemed a little odd. The sky was very dark and cloudy but no rain fell and that’s why the house and hill was lifeless. There also was a river that ran up the hill but didn't help the hill go anything and the lions found it very odd. The lions soon warmed up to the place and figured no one would find them here and they didn't have to make any thing else happy, except themselves. so they continued to walk.
As soon as they stepped on to the hill a small white cloud come right above the lions and began to rain. These made the lions extremely happy because they both knew what to do with the rain. So every day they walk around the hill together bringing water to the entire hill. Soon after they started watering the hill it began to bloom beautiful flower and around the house bushes and trees began to go also. This mad the lions so happy that they always kept a smile on their face, even though it always rained on them.

Surreal Practice Tutorials

We prepared for our surreal project by practicing different techniques we may want to use in our projects. In this tutorial we learned the value of layering textures using blending options to create an atmosphere with dream like qualities.(http://www.photoshop-garden.com/view_tut.php?id=76Credit: Stock: hbrush.com Texture: moonchilde-stock.deviantart.com, 99mockingbirds.chanlu.orgText brush: shyndel.deviantart.com)
I learned that you could put a lot of very different things such as overlays, oppacities, patterns, and colors together and create something very different but not to crazy looking.

We then followed this tutorial found at http://www.voidix.com/eye_manipulation.html to give us ideas and practice combining images, reversing natural laws, transforming objects and using Photoshop to create a realistic surrealistic scene. I really liked the eye come though or out of the wall. I think that it's very cool that photoshop allows us to create thing like this.

graduation

I think that because i used a different picture other than that big Pegasus my cover as a more uniqueness to it. I think that maybe mine had to much going on. I think that it wound have been a tad bit better with less things going on. I think it was easier to use than i first thought. Graphic design allows you to do so much, it was really fun using it although it took a lot of time. Well the combination of words and graphics are the most important aspect of graphing design. I think that you did a great job on instruction for this project.

alternate program: Si Se Puede

I think that I broke up my space well and also I think that I did a very good job on the choose of font and placement. I think that I could have done a little more, my cover is simple so maybe I could have add something more outstanding. It might not seem like this would be the right answer but I struggled with the gradient the most. It was hard getting it where it it is now because I wanted mostly purple but a nice brake though it, so that was the hardest part.
I think I did better on this program because I felt really comfortable and confident with this one.

color effects

I really like this effect because it blurs everyone except myself. It was really cool playing with the effects.

frame

I really like my close up better because it expresses my goofier side. In most of my picture I look sad or I have a more artistic face. This picture shows the everyday me. I think that the way I captured the shadows created a very artistic feel to the picture. I think that maybe if I myself looked more artistic it would add more to the picture.

color!

I like both pictures but they could have been better. My first picture is really cool and the pose really goes with the background but the background itself could have been brighter. I really wanted the colors to show better in the photo. In my second pose i really like the lighting and all the leading lines but the pose itself could have been better. I really was stuck because i wanted that spot but i didn't know what to do with myself, so that was my fault that it wasn't as good as it could have been. In the future i think that I'll take more time in putting together better backgrounds with better poses.

balance: asymmetrical vs. symmetrical

Symmetrical balance is when you could cut the picture in half and it would be the same on each side. It makes it easier to balance a photo using symmetry. Asymmetrical balance is when it won't be the same on each side if it was cut down the middle but it's balanced. Asymmetrical balance is harder because you have to balance the photo yourself. Visual balance is very important because if it's not balanced the entire picture is thrown off, it just doesn't like right if it isn't balanced. It also can be a distraction.

group collaboration

It was really hard getting us to go with the timer. It wasn't extreme hard but when you're working with so many people you really have to be on the same page with everyone. I also think the timing was somewhat difficult because if you weren't on exactly you looked off in the photo. I would have a more simpler background because these background took away from the picture and our group.

artist statement

In my portfolio everything that was given to us to turn in will be there except my social issue project. I also don't have my scream interpretation. I'm very happy with my portfolio. I work hard and I'm very proud of my artwork. I've learned a ton of stuff. I learned a lot about photoshop and just using the camera in general. I would have never even known about photoshop or the cool stuff I can do on the camera. This class has opened my eyes to view the world in a different way. I think my most successful project was my haunted Chavez. It was a really hard project but also a really cool one too. I think that i was most successful in this project is because it was pretty much the first big project that we had to do on our own. I think because of that I worked so hard on to. I showed myself that I could do something fantastic and original all on my own with the knowledge Miss Cook showed us.
The thing I struggled with the most would be photoshop. Photoshop is really hard to use because of the fact that you just have to know what you're doing. It's hard because you have to remember so much stuff. You can do so much to one picture, if you know how, that it can be overwhelming. I believe that the more practice I have in photoshop the better I will become. I really want to improve my photoshop skills. I also seen a huge improvement in photoshop also I've improved in my all around success in class. I feel that my picture show that I've learned greatly throughout the semester

lyric

I love you... I love you... I love you Baby I love you You are my life My happiest moments weren't complete If you weren't by my side You're my relation In connection to the sun With you next to me There's no darkness I can't overcome You are my raindrop I am the seed With you and God, who's my sunlight I bloom and grow so beautifully Baby, I'm so proud So proud to be your girl You make the confusion Go all away From this cold and mixed up world I am in love with you You set me free I can't do this thing Called life without you here with me Cause I'm Dangerously In Love with you I'll never leave Just keep lovin' me The way I love you loving me And I know you love me Love me for who I am Cause years before I became who I am Baby you were my man I know it ain't easy Easy loving me I appreciate the love and dedication From you to me Later on in my destinyI see myself having your child I see myself being your wife And I see my whole future in your eyes Thought of all my love for you sometimes make me wanna cry Realize all my blessings I'm grateful To have you by my side Every time I see your face My heart smiles Every time it feels so good It hurts sometimes Created in this world To love and to hold To feel To breathe To live you Dangerously in love Can't do this thing I love you , I love you, I love you I'll never leave Just keep on loving me
I'm in love with you I can not do
I cannot do anything without you in my life Holding me, kissing me, loving me Dangerously
I love you
Dangerously in love
I choose these lyrics because I would love to really feel this way about someone one day. This to me is that one song that I would love to hear at my wedding. I would love to look into the eyes of my one love an let him know that this is how I feel. Love is a wonderful thing and I believe that everyone should experience it. So that’s why I choose this song which is, Dangerously in Love 2 by Beyonce Knowles.

haunted chavez

In this project we had to take a real part of our everyday lives and make it "scary". We had to create a scary reality. My initial idea was the thought of a really scary math test. When i first heard about the project the first thing that popped into my mind is my pre-calculus test that i had later on that day. So since my math teacher, Mr. Rauge knows my boyfriend my ideas started roaming though my head and i don't think that i could have came up with anything better. What if my teacher was to kill my boyfriend so that he couldn't help me on my test?! My idea stayed the same for the most part. I added a few things like my ghost extra and my spirit going after my teacher. Other than that my general idea remained the same. One of the hardest decisions i had to make was figuring out what i would be doing in the picture, that's how the idea of my spirit attacking my teacher came about. Also if i wanted to keep my extra ghost in the photo. Once i finished him he was to cool looking to cut out, so i battle within myself whether or not i should keep him. I hope my decision doesn't mess up my photo to other people. Once again my extra was a promble but I solved it by pulling him down so that he wouldn't be to close to my ghost of myself. Also my ghost spirit was very hard to create. I tryed look 25 different times before i got the ghost I was looking for. I think that I created my image very well. It came out almost exactly like how i seen it in my head. I really think I captured my idea, my way, very well. I think that it was a great project for everyone. It allowed us to do whatever we wanted to do to express ourselves. It was really fun doing this project because it allowed my to express myself with any ones judgement. I really felt that I was allowed to express myself freely on this project and although it was only a project for digital photo it helped me cope was some of my other classes as while.

gaurdian

In this picture the emphasis is a man and a tree. Its seems as if the man wants to be one wit nature, or a simble of growth. In this sad and dark piece of art the image is seen clearly. The bim brightness of the light shows the growth in the photo.
Though my eyes the artist is trying to show how the dead area around him should be, full, with many branches. It seems that he wishes that this is how he would like to see all the tree.
Just like in the life should be fulled with branches of life.

scary expression

I think this picture is more funny than scary! It looks like my face is on fire. When I look at it it makes me smile because of the goofiness of the photo, although it's titled 'scary face'.

When I look at this picture it makes me happy. I think that it's really cool that we can create something like this. I look like a whole different thing. It's also cool that I can merge three different picture to make one cool one.

I really like this picture because we got to play with a lot of different tools. When I look at this photo it makes me feel like I accomplished because I was able to gasp the tool and use them once this project was over.

creative me

This project was an opportunity for us to put the tools we have learned to use. We were to take one of our portraits, and change it creatively using the following: selection tools, layers, adjustment layers, layer styles, blending options, paint brushes and opacity.

I liked this position and the stuffed bear added to the feel of the picture. I liked the lasso because it allowed you to select free handed. It also allowed you to select two place at once. For example, it allowed me to select the stuffed bear without selecting my arm, shirt, or pants. I feel pretty confident with photoshop. I could learn more and I would like to master the tricks we've learned so far.

adjustment layers

In this exercise we learned about Adjustment layers. Adjustment layers allow you to add adjustments to your image on separate layers instead of directly to the image itself. This comes in handy during long complicated projects. In Photoshop every tool is specifically designed to help improve your photo. However, here we took some artistic liberties and explored adjustments creatively.

self portrait

For our Self-Portrait project we were to take three self-portraits. They were all to be in black and white, and they were all to capture a mood of some sort. We were also challenged to be as artistic as possible, and stay as far away from normal, cliche portraits that we see on personal pages etc. as possible. One had to use the rule of thirds as the base for the composition; One had to incorporate leading lines, and one had to be taken from a more extreme angle.
I think that my extreme angle photo was the best because it was organal and it really captured me. Next time i would like to get more of an angle because this to me could have been a little more extreme. Overall i believe that i captured myself well and I think captured the compostional tricks good.

CONTACT SHEET

I think that it turned out great. I was very surprised on how it turned out, i never would have thought that I could do this. I think that i really captured the whole photoshop thing. I really did well on the organization and making sure that each title went great with it's picture. Next time I'll play more with my options, colors and things in that nature. I think that my leading line turned out the best because of the unicque pose. I like the macro field of depth the most because it really gives a deep feel to the picture, even with the shallow field of depth.

compostional trick #5: CROP

Cropping is a trick that photographers do all the time, even if they don't realize it. Every time a photographer chooses to cut something out of his/her frame, before they snap the photo, that is in essence cropping. We also have learned tools on Photoshop that allow us to crop an image after we have taken it. When cropping in Photoshop it is possible to improve our composition or change it completely.
I changed the composition from my original photo to this one by using marching ants and cropping out all the extra space in the photo. I like this picture better because it doesn't have a lot of extra space and it captures exactly what I wanted from the photo. i used marching ants to remove the unwanted part of the picture and then i used the type tool to add the text.

compostional trick #4: EXTREME ANGLE

In order for me to get this angle I was simple standing over my subject. I really like the angle of the picture and the way it turned out in black and white. I also love all the different grays and how the photo goes from black to white as you go though it. I personally think that if my subject was more to the left side of the photo it would have gave a better/deeper feel to it. Taking a picture from an extreme angle give the picture more pop. It looks like the picture is doing more when its from an extreme angle, rather than straight on.

compotional trick #3: macro

Using marco is really cool. When used on the camera it focuses the camera to focus on one thing such as your subject or empthesis. Depth of field is how far back in the photo you can see, like how far your backgroud goes. A deep depth of feild is being able to see far into the backgroud. A shallow depth of field is when you can't see far into the photo, or the backgroud gets blurrier the farther you go into the photo. To me marco is really cool when you just want the viewer to see what you see. For example in my depth of field photo i only saw the flower, that was my main view and macro is a great way in showing that. It really makes the subject pop. My favorite picture between this two pictures is the texure photo. Although i love the depth of field, the texture photo allows me to see something that i look at every single day in a new way. The texture photo is a photo of my hair in a ponytail and i see it everyday and have naver seen it like this.

compotional trick #2: leading lines

Leading lines are very good for direction. They lead your eyes to the subject, deep into the photo, and throgh out the photo. The lines are used just like arrows. They also lead your eyes on a path through the photo if there isn't a strong empthesis. In this photo the leading lines are the bricks that lead to my subject.

compotional trick #1: rule of thirds

The first rule to rule of thirds is to never have your subject directly in the center of the picure. On your camera use the rule of thirds (tik tak toe) grid and place the subject on any one of the cross (+) pionts. This is a very easy trick to make a good photo.`
